Technology PAT Assistance is designed to help learners prepare effectively for their Technology Practical Assessment Tasks (PATs) while developing the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to complete the project independently.

The purpose of the service is not to do the PAT for the learner, but rather to guide and equip them with the understanding, practical skills and preparation necessary to succeed when completing the project at school.

Learners receive assistance with:

• Understanding the PAT requirements
• Interpreting project instructions and assessment criteria
• Research and information gathering
• Planning and project organisation
• Technical drawings and design concepts
• Material selection and preparation
• Tool usage and safety
• Practical skill development
• Problem-solving techniques
• Understanding structures, mechanisms, circuits and systems
• Building confidence before the school construction phase

Where required, assistance can also be provided in preparing and assembling material kits so that learners arrive at school with the correct materials ready for use.

Support is tailored to the learner’s grade level:

Grade 7

• Simple structures
• Basic circuits
• Introduction to planning and design

Grade 8

• Mechanisms and gears
• Sustainability concepts
• More advanced planning and construction methods

Grade 9

• Electronics and systems
• Real-world problem solving
• Advanced design thinking and project planning

The focus is on helping learners understand the process, develop practical skills and gain confidence so they can successfully complete their PAT at school using their own knowledge and abilities.
